はじめてこの詩を読んだとき、涙がでそうになりました。

1.My life is likely to last ten to fifteen years．
Any separation from you will painful for me.
Remember that before you buy me.
僕は10年から15年くらいしか生きていられない。
ほんの少しでも君と離れているのが辛いんだ。
僕を飼う前にそのことを思い出してほしい。
2.Give me time to understand what you want of me.
「君が僕に望むこと」を理解できるようになるまで時間が必要なんだ。
3.Place your trust in me- it's crucial to my Well-being.
僕を信じてほしい。.....
それが一番重要なんだ。
4.Don't be angry at me for long and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your entertainment and your friends. I have only you.
僕を長時間叱ったり、罰として閉じ込めたりしないでね。
君には仕事があり、楽しみがあり、そして友達だっている。
でも僕には君しかいないんだ。
5.Talk to me sometimes. Even if I don't understand your words, I understand your voice when it's speaking to me.
時々僕に話しかけてね。君の言葉はわからなくても、
君の声で僕は理解できるんだ。
6.Be aware that however you treat me, I'll never forget it.
君が僕をどんな風に扱っているのか気づいてほしい。
僕はきっとそのことを忘れない。
7.Remember before you hit me that l have teeth that could easily crushthe bones of your hand but that I choose not to bite you.
僕をぶつ前に思い出して欲しい。
僕には君の手の骨を噛み砕くことができる歯をもっているんだ。
でも僕は、そんなこと・・・したくない。
8.Before you scold me for being uncooperative, obstinate or lazy, ask yourself if something might be bothering me.
Perhaps I'm not getting the right food, or I've been out in the sun too long or my heart is getting old and weak.
僕が頑固で言う事をきかなくて怠け者だって叱る前に、
何故僕がそうなるのか君自身に問いかけてほしい。
食事をちゃんと与えてくれた？
長い時間、ひなたに放置しなかった？
僕の心臓は年をとって弱っていない？
9.Take care of me when I get old ; you, too, will grow old
僕が年をとっても世話をしてくれる？
君だって同じように年をとるんだよ。
10.Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say, "I can't bear to watch it ." or " Let it happen in my absence." Everything is easier for me if you are there. Remember, I love you.
僕の人生が終わる時、君にそばにいて欲しい。
「見ているのがつらい」とか「いないところで逝って」なんて言わないで。
君がそこにいるだけで、すべてがたやすいことなんだ。
どうか忘れないで。僕が君を愛していることを。
